Daihatsu Concept Cars At Tokyo Motor Show
Daihatsu recently debuted its DN Compagno hybrid saloon concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. It is a classic car concept with a futuristic interior. Influenced by the original ‘compagno’ from the 1960s, the concept’s upper character line stretches from the front headlight to its old Cadillac-shaped back. The electric car also features a narrow chrome grille, a clean panoramic roof, and 360° cameras that replace the traditional wing mirrors.

Daihatsu Concept Cars At Tokyo Motor Show in 2017. The DN Compagno is just one of the five new cars Daihatsu debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show but it is perhaps the most interesting.
Powering the retro saloon car is a petrol hybrid powertrain that combines either a 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. The engine is married to a CVT transmission which means it’s probably not the most fun to drive but could come in handy in stop/start traffic.
What is great about the car however is the styling.
It’s got a completely retro design with a narrow chrome grille, bubble-shaped roof, and old Cadillac-like rear.
Much like the new Honda Sports EV Concept and Urban EV Concept, the Compagno wears both it's retro and modern features well.
Its interpretive styling has been nailed in the same way the Fiat 500 did when it was brought back to life.
By design, the new car looks more like a coupe, with a sweeping roofline, than a saloon car which it is being described as.
Inside the car is a complete contrast to the exterior. The outside is retro inspired while the interior looks futuristic and modern.
The center console looks to consist of two separate screens with huge tactile buttons dividing them.
It’s a cool interior and the V-shaped center console is some design that gives it a unique look compared to the typical squares or rectangles we are used to.
The gearstick looks to be in a bit of an awkward place bolted onto the bottom of the center console, but it does leave an interesting-looking panel in between the driver and passenger.
You also get a better look at the 360 cameras which have replaced the traditional wing mirrors.
It has been design for “active seniors” as a fun post-retirement vehicle.
